Some of my pupils have been felting furiously! I had the children working in pairs, as 'felting buddies' to create tropical flowers. One half of the pair would use the felting wool, to build up layers of the wool fibres in alternating directions, to create a piece of flat felt, which would later become the petal part of the flower, while their 'felting buddy' got busy with the bud, to create a small sphere, forming the central part to their flower.
The Primary 5-7 class at Inverarity Primary School, produced some wonderful pieces of flat felt and flower buds, which can be seen below. Bursting with beautiful colours!
The children used a cardboard, flower shaped template, to mark and cut out a flower shape from the best section of their flat felt, once it was dry and then they cut their flower buds in half to form the central bud for their flower. What we did not expect to find, was a perfectly formed number inside one of the buds, the number 25!! It could perhaps be made into a brooch and presented to Mrs Hardie, as a gift on her next birthday, with that number on it!!
Birkhill Primary School was the next school to have a felting frenzy, with Mrs Bell's Primary 6 class up first and they did not disappoint! The flower buds below remind me of the inside of a stick of rock - gorgeously, delicious colours! They almost look like sweeties!
These two look a little like two dizzy eyes with a beak staring out!
Primary 6 did a great job! These flowers, when assembled could be used in so many ways, as key rings, brooches, hair bows or bobbles, bows on shoes or even attached to a hat or a bag!
Mrs Strachan's Primary 5/6 class also did a marvellous job with their felt-making and decided to create different jewellery pieces with their felt. Some examples in progress are below.
One of the girls has used her felt to create a hairband, it could also be a necklace.
I really like the colours and additional decoration on this friendship bracelet made by one of the boys, brilliant!
This girl made a colourful hair bobble with her felt flower.
Job well done Birkhill Primary School, looking forward to seeing more marvellous ideas and final pieces!
So with a little warm water, a little bit of soap and a whole lot of energy, you can all keep on felting!!
